What do you mean by "action"? It's pretty simple--it's a personal preference!
We offer two: medium and medium fast action.
What's best for a novice to bamboo? We'd recommend medium fast action bamboo rods. This way, you are not having to make drastic changes to your casting style.
To flame or not to flame? We offer some of our rods with a flamed finish and some with a natural finish.
This too is a personal preference as to the finished appearance of the rod. Flamed rods and natural finished rods should perform the same, though to be honest, no two bamboo rods will perform identically--the joy of fishing a natural, handmade fly rod!
Two tips? Yep, that's typical. We do offer The Breitenbush and The Rogue with a one tip option, but most of what we sell has two matched tip sections. While handy if you happen to break a tip mid-outing, the main reason for two is that we recommend switching out the tips each day you fish to give the tip sections a chance to relax and remain straight. It's natural.
The parabolic flex resulting in a hinge action will turn your casts into powerful and precise presentations.
Casting bamboo will help you become a better angler.
Feel that smooth action when you flick your wrist to cast? That's the beauty of fishing bamboo.
Each Headwaters Bamboo is hand split and hand planed to micro tolerances.
From the tip to the butt section each bamboo rod is made up of six perfectly shaped tapered triangular strips glued and bundled together to form a hexagonal rod, the backbone of a quality fishing instrument.
Come for the fishing. Stay for the aesthetic.
The glistening spar varnish. The elegant agate guide. The windings wrapped uniformly. The precision reelseats. The expertly formed Portuguese cork grips. All come together in a rod that looks as good as it fishes.
Fine fit and finish for a rod that lasts a lifetime--or more!
We're all enamored with this planet earth. What can you do to protect our home?
Fish bamboo, of course! Bamboo is pretty unique in how it grows, how often it can be harvested, and how it helps the earth breathe.
When you fish a Headwaters Bamboo rod you are helping to keep this planet a livable place for us all.
Contemporary bamboo rods going for upwards of $3,000 and having to painfully wait a year or more for the rod? Crazy, but it doesn't have to be that way.
At Headwaters Bamboo our rods are reasonably priced at six times less expensive! And a reasonable wait time. Most rods ship same or next day. If we are out of stock, the wait is typically no more than a month.
The slow cadence of a bamboo rod will help you commune with your surroundings.
The water. The bugs. The rocks and trees and soil. Soak it in. Breathe. Enjoy. Bamboo will do that for you.
We are, in a phrase, tackling the uncommon. Does that speak to you as a fly angler?
