The Grande Ronde was built for the kind of fishing most people drive past to get to bigger rivers. Tight runs, wild cutthroat, presentations measured in feet rather than yards. At 6'6" in a 3-weight, it's a rod that fits the water it was designed for - and nothing about it is a compromise.
Medium fast action means it loads quickly and fires cleanly without the deliberate stroke that a slower rod demands. On small water, where you're making a lot of short, accurate casts in close quarters, that responsiveness matters.
The Dickerson 6611 Taper
Lyle Dickerson built rods in Michigan with a precision that was unusual for the era. Where other makers produced general-purpose tapers, Dickerson engineered specific tools. The 6611 is a short, responsive 3-weight with a quick tip and a firm butt - a taper that was designed to cast accurately at close range and protect light tippet on small fish.
It's not a delicate rod in the way a slow-action 3-weight is. It has authority. It just delivers that authority in a small package, on water that rewards it.

The fittings: A finely knurled double-locking downlocking reel seat with stabilized burled maple insert. Ultra-fine cork grip. Red agate stripping guide. Hard chrome guides wrapped in deep burgundy thread with a narrow black tip.
