Headwaters Bamboo

Real bamboo. Built by hand. Priced to fish.

A handmade Tonkin cane fly rod usually runs $1,500 to $4,000. Ours don't. We build split cane by hand and sell straight from the workshop, so you pay for the rod, not the dealer.

An angler with a trout on a bamboo rod

Why ours don't cost $2,000

Most bamboo rods are priced like heirlooms and treated like museum pieces. We think a cane rod should be fished. We build ours by hand, skip the dealer network, and sell direct, so a real Tonkin cane rod finally costs about what a good graphite one does.

The final taper is hand-planed on a steel planing form, the old way. Every rod is finished to be fished hard, not hung on a wall.
